Chapter Seven

A diode allows electrons to flow easily in one direction while it restricts in the other. The first veil told me what that would feel like in physical space. The inviting circle of converging lines was absent from my overlay. The walls forming a cyan cylinder around us were gone. I looked up to no visible ceiling. I closed my eyes, feeling the space, reaching for the resonance but felt nothing. No hum, no beats. No way back.

"Kes," Nev said. "Where are we?"

"Between the veils of the gate, like doors on an airlock, I guess."
